Breaking the stigma on formerly incarcerated youth everywhere.

A person is a person, not their crime.

Since 2019, we have interviewed formerly incarcerated youth across San Diego, California in efforts to educate youth on the criminal justice system.

Through our journalistic 1:1 dialogue approach, advocacy panels, and partnerships with youth-led organizations across the nation, we aim to present a narrative that reinforces the idea that “a person is a person, not their crime.”

Our Journalism

Far too often, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals are portrayed in the media as broken and violent. Yet, we know this is far from the truth.

Our mission is to dismantle this false narrative by giving incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals the platform to reclaim their stories.

From our Youtube series sharing successful reintegration stories through our role as a resource for youth seeking to learn more about the juvenile justice system, we aim to culminate empathy through our unique journalistic approach.

Community/ Partnerships

As a for youth, by youth organization, we deeply value our community and partnerships. Since our start as a Social Fabric Initiative at the University of San Diego’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, we have built a strong network of both youth and adult activists and organizations.

COMMUNITY EVENTS:

  • Youth panelists on VIBE Movement’s “What’s Color got to do with it?: Dismantling the School to Prison-Pipeline” Series 2020

  • Presenters for Youth Summit NYC’s 2021 Summit held by Students and Educators for Equity (SEE) and Youth Restorative Justice (YRJ)

… and more!

In the media

Through our Social Media Platform, we actively engage with both local and nationwide organizations to put together panels, posts, and video content supporting reform.
